The Brief

The clients approached us with a clear vision: breathe new life into their 1990s suburban home without losing its warmth. Every room needed to work harder for a growing family while feeling considered and unhurried. We stripped the interior back to its shell and rebuilt the layout around how the family actually lives — morning routines, homework, weekend cooking.

The ground floor was opened up to create a continuous living and dining area, anchored by a central kitchen island crafted from honed limestone. Light became the guiding principle, with new skylights introduced above the stairwell to draw afternoon sun deep into the plan.

Materials and Finish

We leaned into a palette of natural, tactile materials that would age gracefully — white oak flooring, linen upholstery, and hand-plastered walls in a warm off-white. Fixtures were kept simple and matte throughout, letting the textures carry the room rather than decorative detail.

Custom cabinetry runs the length of the utility hall, concealing the practical demands of family life behind clean, flush doors. Every finish was sampled on-site across different times of day before being signed off, ensuring the palette holds under both the bright Texas sun and the warm glow of evening light.
