The Brief

Westport started as a seasonal getaway — a compact beach cottage used for a few months a year, furnished with whatever was comfortable and expendable. The clients, a family of four, decided to make it their permanent home and asked us to transform it accordingly without disturbing the easygoing character that made them love it in the first place.

The challenge was to make the home feel complete and considered without losing its sense of ease. We restructured the interior to prioritize the view — pulling the living area toward the ocean-facing elevation and reducing the footprint of secondary rooms to give the main spaces room to breathe.

Palette and Texture

The material palette was drawn entirely from the immediate landscape: bleached linen, whitewashed timber, and matte ceramic in shades of sand and fog. We deliberately avoided anything that read as nautical or themed, opting instead for a quiet warmth that works in every season and in every light.

Outdoor and indoor materials were kept consistent across the threshold — the same stone used on the terrace continues into the kitchen — creating a sense of the house extending naturally into the garden. The result feels less like a renovated cottage and more like a home that was always meant to be exactly this.
